Jay Clouse [00:00:00]:
Hello, my friend. Welcome to another episode of Creator Science, a special episode here the week of Thanksgiving. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, Happy Thanksgiving to you. I wanted to record a quick episode this week because for the next week ish until December 1, I am opening enrollment for a brand new program that I've never done before that I'm excited to finally do for the first time. And time is of the essence because it's only available for enrollment here during the week of Black Friday. This is my signature product Boot Camp, a full four week live course that I'm teaching to help you develop your signature product, something you can sell with confidence for years. The program is running December 4th through December 29th and we only have 50 spots available. I expect those to move quickly.
Jay Clouse [00:00:48]:
But I wanted to take some time here today to tell you a little bit about this, where it came from, why I'm doing it, why I think it's something you should consider if you are the right fit. And so let's just get right into it. I believe that making money should feel as easy as creating content. There is nothing worse than wondering where your next cash injection is coming from. I know, I've experienced this. I'm sure you have experienced this. And when you are successfully creating content, when you feel like you're good at the content thing, it feels like making money should be an easier part of that. When you're feeling financial stress, it's difficult to tap into the headspace you need to create new content.
Jay Clouse [00:01:30]:
And it creates this vicious cycle. You stress about money, you end up creating less content, which means you attract less attention, which means you stress more about money because there's even less of it coming in. So you create less. And then there's this other vicious cycle that I see creators falling into all the time, which is the launch cycle. When you launch a product, you feel the relief of cash rolling in. But after that launch, things often get quiet. You have a hard time selling that product in an evergreen way. So you build another product and you launch that thinking, okay, I guess the key is just making and launching new products.
Jay Clouse [00:02:12]:
But then all that building and delivering of new products comes at the expense of time to create content. And then your audience stops growing. You begin creating still more products then to sell to the same dwindling audience because you can't sell them the same thing. You need new things. This is a really, really vicious cycle. When you just keep making new things for the same audience that's actually shrinking. You don't have time to create new content and bring more people in It's a bad time. I've been there.
Jay Clouse [00:02:45]:
You want to invest more time in creating content that grows your audience, but you also want that audience growth to lead to revenue growth. Well, you don't have to keep creating new products and generating revenue doesn't have to feel so hard. All of this gets way, way easier when you have a reliable financial machine in your business. And that starts with building a signature product. Your signature product is how you deliver a specific outcome that you become known for. Your It's a big, bold flag in the ground that says, this is what I can do for you. This is what you should remember me for. It's so closely tied to your overall brand promise that it actually strengthens it.
Jay Clouse [00:03:31]:
If you were forced to only sell one product ever, this is what that product would be. My signature product is the Lab. You've probably heard me talk about it a million times. It's a membership to help creators experiment and grow together. Since launching the lab in 2022, it has generated $1.4 million in revenue, nearly half of all of the revenue my entire business has generated since 2017. Every month, the lab generates 30 to $55,000 from renewals and new members who are attracted by my content. I don't do much active marketing for it, I just mention it in my content like I'm doing here. Some other examples of signature products are Tiago Forte's Building a Second Brain, that's a cohort based course, Amy Porterfield's digital course Academy and online course Sarah Renee Clark has been on the podcast talking about the Color Cube, which is a physical product she created.
Jay Clouse [00:04:26]:
Johnny Miller, also on the podcast, created Nervous System Mastery, that's a cohort based course. Thomas Frank sells Ultimate Brain, a souped up notion template. David Senra has Founder's Notes, which is literally just the notes from his reading. Joy Sullivan has Sustenance, a writing community Mark Schust has MDOT Academy, a premium content membership Ben Thompson has Stratecheri, a paid newsletter and Marie Poulin has Notion Mastery, a high ticket hybrid. These products span a wide range of formats and they extend beyond education. Your signature product can take any form, whatever makes the most sense for you, your point of view, and your audience. Now here is why not having a signature product is costing you. Most people think that attention is the goal for creators, but mindshare is a much better goal.
Jay Clouse [00:05:16]:
Attention can mean anything from momentary awareness, someone just seeing your reel in their feed, or conscious intent, someone seeking out long form interviews with you or for you not all forms of attention are created equal. You don't want people to just see you. You want them to remember you, to think about you actively. When people remember you, that means you've earned Mindshare. You've earned a space in their mind for something specific, which creates word of mouth downstream. Your business starts growing on its own, and you just have to keep fanning the flames of what other people are saying about you. Selling multiple products makes it much harder for you to develop Mindshare. Do I associate you with the outcome of product A or product B? The more products you offer, the harder association with a specific idea becomes.
Jay Clouse [00:06:13]:
Of course, we're all complex, but other people won't give you that much headspace if they can't associate you with one thing. They won't associate you with anything at all. So the fastest way to develop Mindshare is to articulate a specific point of view, promise a specific outcome for a specific audience, and and create a signature product that delivers on that promise. You follow me? You pick a certain audience, a certain thing you want to do for them, and you develop a product that delivers on it. Then, when you've captured Mindshare for an idea, people grow your brand for you. You're the go to recommendation for some thing, some outcome. Not only will your signature product begin to generate more attention, but selling your own product directly to your audience is the best way to to maximize the value of that attention. Yes, you could do sponsorship and brand deals, but selling your own product is the best, most reliable, and most pure way to develop revenue from the attention you attract.
Jay Clouse [00:07:16]:
I want you to imagine this future for yourself. Okay, close your eyes. You're selling a single product that you know will serve your customers well. You no longer question whether your launches will be successful or not. You spend the majority of your time making content. People naturally buy your product as a byproduct of that content. The product not only begins to sell itself, but also brings people to your content. Sponsorship and brand deals become an optional cherry on top.
Jay Clouse [00:07:50]:
Sounds pretty good, right? That is exactly the type of business I have built. And it's exactly the type of business I want to help you build as well. This is why you need a signature product, and I want to help you develop it. My first ever signature product Bootcamp is a four week group experience that I will be teaching live from December 4th through December 29th. And no, we won't have any calls the week of Christmas. Yes, I know that's the end of the year. Yes, I know that's not Going to work for everyone but for the right person. If this sounds like something you need, this gives you a jump on the new year.
Jay Clouse [00:08:25]:
While everyone else is just starting to plan. This bootcamp will give you clarity on five specific things. Okay. Number one, the promise of your signature product, that is what you're going to deliver to your customers will help you get that to be rock solid, super, super clear. Number two, the format your product should take. Should this be a course, a membership, a group, program, templates done for you service? We will examine literally dozens of different product formats and help you find the right one for your specific situation. Number three, we're going to help you position that product to stand out versus the competition. Number four, we're going to help you price that product, which is a major and important decision.
Jay Clouse [00:09:09]:
And number five, we'll help you name your product, which is a much bigger deal than you may think. After this bootcamp, you'll have the blueprint for your signature product. You could even begin pre selling it if you wanted to. All the tough questions will be answered and you just need to execute on building it. Let me tell you a little bit about the schedule for the bootcamp. Enrollment is open until end of day Monday, December 1st. Our first kickoff call is then on Thursday, December 4th. Then the next two weeks we'll have four live sessions on Monday and Thursday of each week.
Jay Clouse [00:09:43]:
So Monday the 8th, Thursday the 11th, Monday the 15th, Thursday the 18th, we have four live sessions that I will be teaching. Those are an hour and a half each starting at 1pm Eastern time. So that's 10am Pacific, 6pm In Europe. I believe in those sessions. Half of that will be me teaching. A good portion of it will be individual exercises and homework. And then we'll have Q and A. Each of these sessions will come with specific homework assignments to follow up those sessions.
Jay Clouse [00:10:14]:
To keep you on pace, we'll have some time during the session to work on it. We'll have time for questions during the session and there's a couple days between sessions obviously for you to work on it, ask for feedback in circle or submit that homework in circle for me to review it at the end of this experience on the 29th, that's a Monday. We'll have a send off call. There's a whole week in there during Christmas, the week of December 22, where there are no calls. But I will still be accessible via circle. A little bit less accessible as maybe the days before. But that's okay. I'll be in there helping you out again.
Jay Clouse [00:10:46]:
All those calls are scheduled for 1 to 2:30pm Eastern. That's 10 to 11:30am Pacific Eastern and 6 to 7:30pm Greenwich Mean Time, which is most of Europe. You get access to a dedicated space group inside of Circle. This is actually inside the lab. You won't be able to see the spaces in the lab, but you will be in the same Circle instance. And in there you can submit your homework, watch recordings for sessions that you miss, ask for feedback, or communicate with me and other students between calls. All of these calls will be facilitated by me personally, and I'm offering really special pricing on this beta cohort for Black Friday. The next time I run this, it's going to be priced at $9.99 per person.
Jay Clouse [00:11:29]:
But for this cohort on Black Friday, I am pricing it at 3.99 per person. We even have an option for you to have the bootcamp plus one on one time with me. Normally that would be 14.99. That will be 9.99. We only have 10 of those spots available. This is limited to 50 students in total, not counting folks in the lab who all get access to this experience at no additional cost. So if you were on the fence for joining the lab, this might be a good time for you just to join the lab. But if you just want to join the Signature Product Bootcamp, that has a limit of 50 students in total, and I do expect that to sell out relatively quickly.
Jay Clouse [00:12:05]:
If you want to learn more, there is a link in the Show Notes to get you to the information page, most of which I have just shared with you here in this episode, but that also has a link for you to join the Bootcamp. Now I have some questions here that I know folks might have, so I'm just going to run through some of these really quickly. If you're wondering or still have some questions, one question I know I'll get is, who is this really for? Is this for me? How do I know that this is for me? I would say this, this Bootcamp is for you. If any of the following apply. You have an audience, but you're not monetizing it well, you don't currently have a product that you feel confident selling for years to come, or your current products aren't aligned with what you want to be known for. You may also be asking, do I need to have a large audience for this to make sense? And I don't think so. Not necessarily. In some ways, I really believe a signature product actually helps with audience building.
Jay Clouse [00:13:01]:
So ask yourself this. Do you think there are Members of your current audience who are ready to buy something from you, and if the answer is yes, then this will work for you. I don't think you can monetize too early. I think even if this doesn't sell as well as you'd hope, right out of the gates, this will give you the foundation of a product you believe in, that you can go and start focusing on audience building and know that this is on the back end, ready to serve them and become the financial engine of your business. What if you already have a product? Does this make sense for you? I think that depends. If you're not sure that your current product can or will become your signature product, the one thing that you really want to point people to over and over again is then I think this is a good opportunity. I think this will help either this will help you reshape your existing product into that or build a product before or after that existing product experience to become the thing that is your main offer that you bring people to over and over again. This course will help you with positioning, naming, pricing, all of which may elevate your product even if you've already built it.
Jay Clouse [00:14:07]:
Will you actually build your product during this bootcamp? Probably not. Building your product takes a long time and that time varies a lot depending on what format you choose. For example, if we do decide that a course makes the most sense for you as your signature product, that will take a long time to plan, record and edit, and that time is not really built into this four week experience. Our goal with this Bootcamp is to help you make all the critical decisions to send you on your way to building with confidence. If you want to get started during the bootcamp, if you have time for doing that, if you're ahead on your homework, I will be as supportive as possible in the feedback space. If you want to start actually building those pieces, I will be as supportive as I can. But because these formats take different amounts of time and people move at different paces, that is not really what this experience is built for. It's designed to help you get all of the critical decisions made to give you a blueprint that you can walk away with and start building after the Bootcamp is over.
Jay Clouse [00:15:09]:
Is this bootcamp focused on a specific product type like courses? No. Most offers like this shoehorn you into a very specific product format. A course or a membership or a template or a done for you service. We are going to look at all of the possible formats and give you a decision matrix to help you decide which one of these makes the most sense for me based on my unique design constraints, my relationship I want to have with that product, what I know about my audience. We will make sure that this is something that is tailored to you and makes the most sense for your situation. What if you can't make the live calls? Honestly, a lot of the value comes from the live calls because you can ask questions live. There will be time built into these sessions so that you can work on your homework live there. It's really, really helpful to be there live.
Jay Clouse [00:15:59]:
However, we will do everything in our power to support you asynchronously with access to the recordings and feedback in circle. If you can't make any or all of the calls live and you want to get a jump on things, all the materials will be there for you. You can watch them at one and a half or two times speed if you really want to, but I do encourage you to make time for the calls if you can. Will I run this again in 2026? I'm not sure. A lot of that depends on the progress with the book project. A big reason I'm doing this now is so that I create the curriculum to put into the lab for future members. I may or may not run this again live in 2026, but if I do, the structure and price will probably be slightly different. As I said, the main price that I'll charge for this will be $9.99 per person.
Jay Clouse [00:16:44]:
So this is a significant discount on that and I would prioritize doing it now. If you're on the fence, if you're thinking about joining the lab, would you have to pay for both of these things? The answer to that is no. Members of the lab get access to this bootcamp at no additional cost. So if you're in the lab or if you join the lab, you'll have access to the bootcamp as part of your membership. No additional fee there. Since you're still listening to this, you're obviously a little bit interested at least, which means you probably don't have a signature product right now. You need one. I believe deep in my bones that this is something you should have in your business.
Jay Clouse [00:17:20]:
And whether you work with me on it or not, please make it a priority for yourself. And if you're gonna make it a priority, why not get started sooner rather than later? Having a signature product has changed my business and as a result, my entire life. I would love to help you do the same for your life and your business. So consider enrolling in the Signature Product Bootcamp. This is a four week live course for developing your signature product, something you believe in and can sell with confidence for years to come. That will run from December 4th to December 29th. Once again, registration closes December 1st at midnight Pacific Time. I would really jump on this sooner rather than later.
Jay Clouse [00:18:03]:
If you're listening to this and you're interested, we have limited spots, 50 spots total at this price of 399. I would love for you to join us. Would love to support you in building this out over the next month. If you have any questions, you can comment on this here on Spotify or send me an email. J creatorscience.com there's the link to enroll in the show Notes. I hope to see you there.
